Northumbria University hoped to pick up where they left off in last week’s victory over Hull against a Birmingham side making the long trip north after suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of Gloucestershire last week. Andy Kelly named an almost unchanged side, welcoming Mark Dack into the side after being missing last week due to commitments with the Scottish National Squad.

Northumbria University kicked off this year’s Super 8 campaign with a win over Hull after being on the receiving end of 2 defeats last season against the same opposition. Northumbria started off positively but it was the visitors who scored first, Will Bate taking the ball to the line before his flat pass was picked off by Full Back Mike Ellis who scampered 80m to touch down, Jacob Peacock’s conversion putting them 6 points ahead with only 3 minutes played.

University of Durham 18- 16 Northumbria University 2nds
Adam Houston reports from Maiden Castle
Northumbria University 2nds travelled to Durham hoping to kick start their BUCS North Title aspirations after tasting a heavy defeat away to Leeds TASC last week. Durham got off to winning ways against Northumbria’s bitter rivals Newcastle so came in to the game in good spirit.
Indiscipline and too many errors was the early story of the half for both sides before Durham took advantage of a lapse in concentration.

Leeds Trinity and All Saints College 40 - 4 Northumbria University 2nds
Adam Houston reports from LTU Sport Centre
Northumbria University 2nds made the journey to Leeds to kick off this year’s BUCS competition to face a strong TASC side intent on pushing them all the way for the league title this year. With TASC already having played 3 games together and this being Northumbria’s first, it was always going to be a difficult task and it certainly proved to be so right from the kick off. Leeds Trinity were fired up & physical and Northumbria did all they could to hold them out but this didn’t last long. Home skipper Dom Hitchen crossed for the first of his 4 tries on the day, powering over from close range after poor discipline gifted them 3 sets deep in Northumbria territory.
